Prisoner safety

I have a prison of about 200, mainly max security. For some reason most of the inmates now fear for their safety, but I can't work out why. They are jumping up and down, but there's no rioting or anything. Its been like it for a couple days. Can it be gangs? They have take control of some areas. Any ideas?

It is gangs I think, kicked out a gang that had taken over the yard and things seem to have calmed down

Gangs can do it as well being understaffed with guards and things like that. I found sometimes having no doors can raise it as well as I removed a few doors ( door to canteen and yard) as they both have metal detectors and it was just stalling things up even with automatic doors. Now a few high traffic areas like chow and hard still have metal detectors just no door, much faster. Prisoners with weapons also make people worry

Ok thanks, Yeah could be all those contributing to the unease. Contraband is a major problem in my prison.

If a gang leader goes into lockdown or solitary then the rest of that gang well revolt. Same thing with evicting a gang. All the members of that gang across all levels of security will become tense and that will drive the safety down faster than anything. Unfortunately, additional guards don't help in that scenario

Contraband always sucks, sometimes determining the type of contraband can help eliminate some if not all. Those 3am shakedowns do wonders to weed out(pun definitely intended) contraband but the larger your prison gets the longer it takes lol, I start shakedowns at 12am now.

Prisoner safety has improved amongst the general prison population now. Just the gangs are killing each other on a daily basis instead lol.

Edgar Allen Poe and Vincent van Gogh are my 2 favorite tortured poets, one stabbed with a pen will the other stabbed with a brush..Except that one time in france...

Prisoner safety needs go up when the danger level is high and go down when danger level is low. Punishing a gang leader will make its members FURIOUS in my prison a gang leader was a legendary prisoner and I punished him to lockdown for 1000 hours to remove the lockdown or solitary confinement use perm lockdown and take away perm lockdown It will remove lockdown but not solitary use perm solitary for solitary punishments I usually get a riot every morning in the hall say to the canteen gotta remember to get 3 riot teams in formation try to keep danger level low it just makes them angry wait... How do they know what is the danger level?
